We customise the experience for each intern, based on their individual goals and objectives. Inizia Futuro focuses their attention on guiding and teaching valuable professional and technical skills to each intern while also assisting them through their daily work and field research, as well as the development and implementation of interventions for our local partners and the community members they serve. We give you the room and skills needed to grow and flourish, while teaching and mentoring you along the way. Come assist and work side-by-side with prominent organisations striving to integrate refugees and address needs of vulnerable Italian populations.

This fully-mentored internship program features an array of field work in psychology/behavioral health. Interns perform research and develop interventions with vulnerable populations and work alongside established Italian NGO's making remarkable impacts. The projects on which interns will research, develop, and implement include:

 

• Working with adult, children, or entire family of refugees/migrants in areas of mental health and integration


• Training the operators in the migrant welcome centers to build a more cohesive team, improve relationships with migrants, and provide stress management training


•  Interviewing staff of a prominent NGO regarding the stress they face working with vulnerable populations and developing and presenting a workshop for stress management, release, acceptance, and coping skills


• Working with refugees that are no longer eligible for government assistance and face deep psychological strain from their challenges, such as unemployment, isolation, poverty, lack of confidence


• Additional projects as they develop to meet local needs and intern goals

The research and projects/interventions are developed directly by the interns under the guidance of the Inizia Futuro program director. The research, exposure, and learning experience culminates into workshops and projects developed and conducted predominantly by the interns for NGO and government staff and the vulnerable populations they serve. We have an integrative work model that augments intern learning and provides each interns with leadership experience.

 

The cost to participate in the program is $1800.00 USD and includes: 

•Housing for the duration of the internship

•Transportation to and from the airport upon arrival to and departure from Rome, Italy

•On the ground support, orientations, and overall guidance and opportunities to meet and interact with Italians and other interns alike

•Ground transportation to the internship sites and return

•Access to and work experience with local organizations, government and community

•Direct guidance from the program director, who will provide overall and technical training and education

•Language Classes

•Education on Italian history, economy, politics, refugees and their hardships, resources, and processes

Position Summary

As a member of the Great Oaks Tutor Corps, you will mentor and tutor middle or high school students at a Great Oaks Charter School for the duration of one school year (August-June). This is a service role through AmeriCorps with regular full-time hours Monday-Friday and some Saturdays.

In exchange for your year of service you will receive a living stipend, free furnished housing with utilities included, health insurance and on-going professional development throughout the year. You will also be eligible for a Segal Education Award through AmeriCorps after the completion of your AmeriCorps term of service.  As a Great Oaks Tutor Corps member you will invest your time and energy in the success of a small group of middle or high school students to help pave the way to their college success. Most of your day will be spent tutoring students one-on-one or in small groups. You will also take part in secondary projects that directly impact the academic achievements of students. These projects may include providing in-class or curriculum support, organizing or leading after school clubs or working with our culture team.

Specific responsibilities include: 

 Bolstering student achievement:

 • Provide daily tutoring to several small groups of Great Oaks students 

• Work closely with teachers to develop individualized tutorial content

• Lead after-school student clubs 

• Support Saturday Academy over the course of the school year when necessary (dependent on school community placement)

 Building relationships with families:

 •Be present during transitions and escorting students when necessary

Qualifications and Competencies
