Land of the Falcons, Home of the Braves

From heated college rivalries to Super Bowl LII, Atlanta is home to some of the best sporting events in the world. With six professional teams, world-class arenas and a wealth of basketball courts, soccer fields and golf courses where Atlantans can get out and play, it’s easy to see why sports lovers call Atlanta home.

There’s always something to cheer for in Atlanta.

Each fall, NFL fans fill the stands for the Atlanta Falcons. During basketball season, you’ll find NBA devotees cheering for the Hawks and the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream. And, of course, it’s an Atlanta tradition to spend at least one hot summer day at a Braves baseball game in their new home at SunTrust Park. If you’re lucky, you may even catch Bark in the Park, the one day out of the year that man’s best friend takes over the baseball diamond.

And that’s not all — Atlanta’s sports scene continues to grow. Hitting the turf at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Major Soccer League's Atlanta United Football Club is making the playoffs, breaking attendance records and garnering a rabid fan base. In the summer of 2017, Atlanta also added a Major League Lacross team to its roster — the Atlanta Blaze.

In 1996, Atlanta took part in sports history as the Olympic torch made its legendary journey to the Big Peach. And each year, the city is home to the AJC Peachtree Road Race — the world’s largest 10K run. If that weren't enough, in 2019 Atlanta is slated to host Super Bowl LII.

Centennial Olympic Park – Built for the 1996 Summer Olympics

While there’s always a game in town, Atlantans don’t settle for watching from the sidelines. Rain or shine, you’re bound to see us outside shooting hoops, stealing bases or scoring goals. Here, every day is game day, so take some time to bike the Atlanta BeltLine or visit one of the many golf courses the city has to offer. If team sports are more your style, there are plenty of adult leagues to join in Atlanta too.

Let’s play.
