• Training the government operators in the migrant welcome centers to improve relationships with refugees, implement interventions, and provide stress management training
• Developing and presenting interventions via workshops and various modalities to assist refugees manage and overcome stress and other issues arising from the nature of their circumstances
• Working with refugees that are no longer eligible for government assistance and face deep psychological strain from their challenges, such as unemployment, isolation, poverty, lack of confidence
• Additional projects as they develop to meet local needs and intern goals
Business interns will focus on the following projects/topics:
• Assist refugees with job application processes
• Identify areas of improvement and skills development needed by refugees
• Work with NGO and Welcome Center staff to learn processes of refugee integration and identify areas for improvement
• Identify innovative methods for increasing successes of integrations
• Develop interventions, tools, and mechanisms to assist refugees and organizations with aligning skills with opportunities and streamlining processes
• Work with Business Intelligence, Research, and Sociology interns to develop integrative, solution-based interventions
• Researching potential areas for entrepreneurship
• Additional areas as they develop to meet local needs and intern goals
Research interns will focus on the following projects/topics:
• Identifying appropriate variables on refugee individual development plans to better determine how to proceed with skill development and job application processes
• Researching companies to input into a database that delineates companies that may hire refugees, the reasons for company interest, and the skill sets required by the potential job candidate
• Research socio-economic processes currently in use in Rome, as well as in other countries to identify areas of improvement
• Identify mechanisms can be utilized to improve opportunities for refugee integration
• Work with Business, Sociology, and Business Intelligence interns to develop integrative, cohesive solutions and interventions
• Assess and interview necessary stakeholders to develop a clear understanding and picture of processes and areas to target
• Additional areas as they develop to meet local needs and intern goals
Sociology interns will focus on the following projects/topics:
• Social integration of adult, children, or entire family of refugees/migrants
• Training government operators in the migrant welcome centers to improve operations to better serve migrants and refugees
• Create assessment plans and work one-on-one with migrants/refugees to identify areas of needs
• Developing and presenting interventions via workshops and various modalities to assist NGO operators assist refugees/migrants achieve greater success of socio-economic integration
• Develop personalized plans for refugees/migrants to help achieve socio-economic integration
• Identify barriers to integration and work with team members to generate potential solutions
• Additional projects as they develop to meet local needs and intern goals
The cost to participate in the program is $1900.00 USD and includes:
• Housing for the duration of the internship
• Transportation to and from the airport upon arrival to and departure from Rome, Italy
• Orientations, overall guidance, opportunities to meet and interact with Italians and other interns alike
• Ground transportation to the internship sites and return
• Access to and work experience with local organizations, government and community
• Direct guidance from the program director, who will provide overall and technical training and education
• Italian language learning opportunities
• Education on Italian history, economy, politics, refugees and their hardships, resources, and processes
• Opportunities to work with previously-collected data from past and current projects, to learn, and to educate
